To Play MP4 Karaoke and video files you will need to install a Codec package, common packages are K-Lite and CCCP, these can be troublesome to setup correctly and can take hours to get working on some machines. We now have a Codec package that’s been pre-configured especially for use with mp4 karaoke & video files.
We have had good results using this codec package without any of the “Normal Tweaks” required to make other codec packages work. The KaraokeCodecPackage has also worked well when the others cannot be made to work at all. The link for the download is Once downloaded, here is the installation procedure: 1. Uninstall CCCP, K-Lite or similar codec packs.
Unzip and Install the ‘KaraokeCodecPack’ 4. Test an mp4 video with Karaoki, if the video plays you’re done, if not go to 6. Close Karaoki 7.

That’s because DEX 3 is a native video player (uses it’s own custom video decoder) where Karaoki is a native karaoke file format player but requires codecs for playing videos.
Two totally different animals. We have recently found that some of the older versions of Karaoki seem to play nicer with the codec packs – which is actually a great help for us in helping to determine how to make sure a future Karaoki update will always support video (by installing our own codec pack or the like). You can try it if you’re having issues by installing the last public release of Karaoki from this page. Update: For some users the ‘Karaoke Codec pack’ had memory issues when used on Karaoki Build #0.8.6368.23085 and also some earlier builds, this now appears to be fixed in the latest beta’s (Build #0.8.6537.25218 Nov 24th 2017 & Build #0.8.6546.25377 Dec 3rd 2017). When playing MP4 video, on build 0.8.6368.xxxx (and earlier) Karaoki would consume more and more memory until Karaoki would finally crash. I have been testing and with the new betas the memory usage now seems stable and after 4 hours use the memory usage only fluctuated by 250BM depending on what was being played and the case loaded. These tests were carried out on a machine that was suffering from this issue on the old beta.
I have installed codecs and MP4s now work but when I load an MP4 song that has a key setting change in the list, it resets the key back to 0. I have to manually stop the song once loaded and reset the key change before I play it. Is this a known issue? My version is the #0.8.6546.25377. Also my history now doesn’t work. When I click on the history button it flashes a white page quickly(about a sec) then nothing. Also why isn’t there a delete background music case option?
I have to open the manager to find it and then delete it manually. Codecs can act oddly at times, since you’re not using our audio engine to decode the files. Not a shock key control isn’t working properly. Can you manually adjust key in the player section after the track is loaded? Are you starting a ‘new show’ every time you load the application? If you do that, you clear out history. The only time you really want to start a ‘new show’ is if you have a different venue you’re working with a different set of singers (that you wish to store history for separately).
Always load last show otherwise. Since background cases aren’t all displayed in a ‘list’ like you’re regular karaoke music cases we felt using the karaoke file manager to manually access and remove those that you have previously saved was the best method for this.
